Relax in a quiet, private setting near Albany, the capital of New York State

Local Attractions and Activities

The Red Cottage, along with the innkeeper's home, is located on a 3-acre parcel in the historic village of Slingerlands, NY, which abuts Albany. The location provides easy access to all parts of the Capital District, including Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga, the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires and Southwestern Vermont. In addition to cultural attractions, outdoor activities abound. A rail trail for walking, running, biking, snowshoeing, XC skiing, is accessible from our backyard. The John Boyd Thatcher State Park is nearby on the Helderberg Escarpment. The Park - a 2155-acre wild park - offers 25 miles of trails, a Nature Center, and phenomenal views. The "forever wild" Adirondack and Catskill Mountains are close enough for a day trip if you are an early riser.

Directions

Slingerlands abuts Albany on its southwest side. To get to Slingerlands from I-90, take Exit 4 onto Route 85 West. The trick is to follow the Route 85 West signs around 3 roundabouts. At the 4th roundabout (the Price Chopper Plaza is on your left), peel off at the first turn and stay on 85 West (also, at that point, named New Scotland Road). Font Grove Road is the first right past the stoplight. You are almost there. Once you are on Font Grove road it is easy to overshoot the site. Watch for a low stone wall and a trellis fence along the road.
